A demanding workout is only one part of your daily energy expenditure. Work pressure, everyday activity and the quality of your rest also influence how prepared you feel for the next challenge. Suunto Resources brings these factors into a single estimate, helping you understand the balance between activity, stress and recovery.

What Is Suunto Resources?
Suunto Resources is a feature on compatible Suunto watches like Suunto Race 3s and other modern devices that estimates your available energy as a percentage. Think of it as a rechargeable battery gauge for your body: the level falls during demanding periods and rises when the watch detects recovery.
The watch uses readings from its optical heart-rate sensor to assess stress and recovery. On models such as the Suunto Race, the Resources widget also identifies four states: active, inactive, recovering and stressed.
A graph displays changes over the previous 16 hours, helping you see how your day has affected your estimated reserves.
This percentage is an estimate rather than a direct measurement of stored energy or remaining exercise capacity. A reading of 20% does not mean you have exactly one-fifth of your physical ability left.
What Drains Suunto Resources?

Suunto identifies physical activity and stress as the main factors that deplete resources. Running, cycling, strength training and other demanding activities can therefore reduce the score. This is an expected part of being active, rather than something you must always avoid.
Stress also matters outside exercise. The feature is designed to reflect your body’s response throughout the day, so a falling score does not necessarily mean you have completed a tough workout. Suunto specifically describes Resources as a way to identify personal stress factors and understand their effects.
When interpreting a decline, consider what you were doing at the time. Comparing a busy working day with a quieter day can be more useful than judging an isolated percentage.
What Recharges Suunto Resources?

Rest and recovery restore resources, with good sleep playing an essential role. Wearing the watch overnight allows supported models to track how your estimated reserves change while you sleep. The watch also track resources gained overnight and the level available when you wake up.
Recovery can also occur during the day.
However, being inactive and recovering are separate states in the Resources display, so sitting still does not automatically mean your score will increase. On the Suunto App, a green indicator shows when the watch detects recovery.
What Is the Feature Useful For?
Resources helps you recognise patterns between daily demands and recovery. You might compare your morning level after different nights of sleep or examine whether breaks during a busy day coincide with recovery periods.
For exercise planning, treat it as one useful piece of information alongside how you feel, recent training and sleep. A high percentage should not override tired legs or discomfort, while a low reading deserves context rather than an automatic decision to cancel activity.
To improve measurement accuracy, enable daily heart-rate monitoring and check that your resting and maximum heart-rate settings reflect your own values. Suunto highlights both settings as important for reliable readings. The feature is most useful when it helps you understand your habits and balance demanding days with sufficient recovery.
