Apple iPhone Duo

Apple officially entered the foldable market with the iPhone Duo, unveiled on September 9, 2026, at the company’s annual fall event. It is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, marking what CEO John Ternus called “the most transformative change to the iPhone since the first version”.

The Duo adopts a passport-style, book-like design that opens to reveal a tablet-sized display while remaining compact when folded.

The device features two Super Retina XDR OLED displays with a consistent aspect ratio for seamless switching between them. The internal screen measures 7.6 inches—the largest ever on an iPhone—and is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, while the external display is 5.4 inches and offers 90% of the iPhone 18 Pro’s screen area. Both screens support ProMotion adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, Always-On mode, and peak outdoor brightness of 3,000 nits. The inner screen also features a nano-texture coating to reduce glare and minimize the visible crease.

Powering the iPhone Duo is Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm processor.

It includes a 6-core CPU (20% faster than the A19 Pro), a 7-core GPU (40% faster and more power-efficient), and a dual 16-core Neural Engine that doubles AI processing speed.

The chip is housed in a custom vapor chamber, improving sustained performance by up to 35% during gaming or demanding AI tasks.

The device packs 12GB of RAM and offers storage options from 256GB up to 2TB. A new Apple-designed C2 modem replaces Qualcomm’s wireless data chips.

iPhone Duo Frame and Hinge

The frame is crafted from grade 5 titanium, with Ceramic Shield on the back and Ceramic Shield 2 on the outer screen, offering IP68 dust and water resistance.

The hinge comprises over 100 mechanical parts, ensuring a flat open position and secure closure. Face ID has been replaced by a Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button, and the device supports the Apple Pencil (USB-C)—a first for an iPhone.

Camera-wise, the Duo includes a 48MP primary sensor, a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom, and a 12MP selfie camera on each display.

The iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27.1, which has been redesigned for the foldable form factor. When unfolded, users can run two apps side-by-side in Split View, and certain apps display additional controls in a sidebar for an iPad-like experience. The device is rated for up to 31 hours of battery life on the inner screen and 44 hours when folded.

Available in Star White and Night Sky, the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model and reaches $3,199 for the 2TB version.
